I have learned to avoid items that look extremely different in every product photo. Forums, blogs and communities create a kind of collective memory for shoppers. Good packaging and a small storage bag are also nice touches for accessories.

Footwear is even harder because different brands cut shoes very differently. Some pieces look shiny online but feel like plastic when you open the package. Sometimes I even measure an existing frame with a ruler before ordering anything new. A product that still looks good after a few months is more impressive than something only good on arrival. Nose pads that are too hard leave marks and feel uncomfortable on the skin. In the end there is no perfect shop, but some stores are clearly more consistent.
